Two directions from Uvita. Two very good days.

Go north for Dominical, south toward Ojochal, and give the coast more than a passing glance.

Use Uvita as your starting point

Staying in Uvita puts you between two easy directions for a day out. Head north toward Dominical, or south toward Ojochal. Route 34 links the coastal communities, but the pleasures of the day are often down a turnoff: a beach, a lunch stop, a place you want to spend longer than expected. Pick one direction rather than trying to cover both at speed. Take water, a change of clothes if your plans call for it, and enough flexibility to stay somewhere simply because you like it.

North: make a morning of Dominical

Dominical is roughly a half-hour drive from Uvita for planning purposes, depending on your starting point and conditions. Make it a beach morning with a meal afterward. The town’s surf culture gives it a different feeling from a quiet day in the gardens. If you want to get in the water, arrange a lesson or seek current local guidance; a dramatic stretch of surf is not automatically a suitable swimming spot. You can also enjoy the beach from shore, browse a little, and take lunch slowly before deciding whether to head home.

Give Nauyaca a day of its own

The road inland from the Dominical area leads toward Nauyaca. It is tempting to add the falls to every northbound outing, but a waterfall visit can take a significant share of the day once you include transport, access, and time there. If Nauyaca is your priority, plan around it and let Dominical become an optional stop afterward. Confirm the operator and entrance first, since different access arrangements are available. Choose the experience that fits your group’s walking ability and interests instead of assuming every ticket involves the same route.

South: leave room for a long lunch

Ojochal lies south of Uvita, roughly 20 to 30 minutes away as a broad driving estimate. Consider it for an outing built around a meal and a change of scenery. Choose your restaurant before leaving and confirm opening hours and reservations directly, especially with a group. The final approach can matter as much as the coastal drive: ask about parking and road conditions at the actual destination. A lunch outing is also a lovely option for guests who want to explore without committing to a boat trip or a long walk.

Add a beach stop near Ojochal

Playa Ventanas is known for the openings in its rocky headland—the windows that give the beach its name. Treat a visit as a chance to enjoy the beach and coastline, rather than a promise that you can enter the caves. Tide, surf, and local instructions determine what is appropriate that day. Confirm access and parking before travelling, and keep belongings with you. If conditions make it a short stop, that is fine: the day can still include a memorable meal and an entirely different view of the coast.

Plan the return before the second coffee

For both outings, the driving estimates are orientation only; weather, roadworks, and your exact destination can change them. A rental car offers flexibility, while a prearranged driver can make a group day easier. If you are using a driver, agree on stops and the return time in advance. For a retreat, protect the space around your sessions: one well-chosen excursion often adds more than several rushed ones. Come back to Synergy for a swim, a shower, or an evening together. Exploring the area should add something to your stay without making the whole day feel like a transfer. Save the location of your chosen stop before leaving the property.
