Know the name on the ticket
The airport you are looking for is Quepos, airport code XQP, also called La Managua. SANSA lists the destination as Quepos–Manuel Antonio. It serves that part of the Pacific coast; it is not an airport in Uvita. This is a useful distinction when comparing flights and arranging a driver. Give your transport provider the airport code and flight details, rather than simply asking for an airport pickup. Uvita is the next part of the journey, reached by road after you land.
What the flight changes
SANSA currently lists a direct San José–Quepos service with an approximate flying time of 30 minutes. Schedules and availability depend on your dates, so check the airline’s booking system before committing to the rest of the trip. Flying can shorten the time you spend on the road and may be an appealing way to begin a coastal stay. It does not necessarily make the whole arrival day shorter. Add the connection, domestic check-in, baggage collection, and final transfer before deciding whether it works better than a driver from San José.
Book a connection you can actually enjoy
The important number is the buffer between flights. SANSA currently recommends a minimum of five hours when connecting from an international arrival, and asks passengers to arrive at least 60 minutes before a domestic departure. Reconfirm those requirements when booking. Your international arrival involves its own formalities, and the onward flight has a separate check-in process. An overnight near San José can be a good solution if your flights do not fit comfortably on the same day. Plan the return journey with the same care, especially before a long international flight.
Pack for both tickets
Check the baggage conditions attached to your SANSA fare before paying. The airline operates with limited cabin space, and international-airline allowances should not be treated as a guide to your domestic booking. If you are carrying teaching equipment, a large suitcase, or something unusually shaped, ask the airline specifically about it. Keep the essentials you need for the travel day accessible. For retreat leaders coordinating several arrivals, send everyone the same reminder: check their own booking and confirm their own baggage, rather than relying on what someone else remembers from a previous trip.
Arrange the drive before you land
From the Quepos area, the road journey continues south along Route 34, through the coastal landscape toward Dominical and Uvita. Allow roughly an hour to an hour and a half for planning, with extra margin for rain, traffic, stops, and the precise pickup and drop-off locations. Confirm the estimate with your driver for your travel day. Send the driver your flight number and agree on how to communicate if the flight changes. For a group, check luggage space as well as seats. Those small arrangements make landing feel pleasantly straightforward.
Make the route fit your stay
If you are joining a hosted Synergy retreat, coordinate with the retreat leader before booking onward transport. Our hosted offering includes agreed group transport arrangements, including Quepos arrangements for guests arriving with SANSA. Individual stays and full-property rentals do not include transfers. You could also use Quepos as part of a longer coastal itinerary, spending time in the area before continuing south; just account for luggage and check-in times if you want to stop en route. The flight is one useful option, not a requirement. Choose it when the complete journey suits your dates, budget, and appetite for another airport. Keep a copy of the driver’s contact details available before departure.
